The British people at time of war showed a spirit of unity that is humbling to behold and something that we perhaps need to find again in these, the most difficult of times. One of the defining elements of the time was the leadership of Winston Churchill. He and his wife visited the East End of London to view for themselves the bomb damage endured by their fellow Londoners. Churchill in an open-topped car surveyed the devastation of people's homes and lives with tears in his eyes; he lead in a crisis and he empathised.
